One of the great advantages of acupuncture is that, other than an occasional bruise, there are no side effects.
This is the most common question asked about acupuncture because many people associate needles with pain. Acupuncture needles are about the thickness of a dog’s whisker, so they are virtually painless when inserted.
This depends on the condition being treated. Although the acupoints are located throughout the entire body, usually the needles are placed on the extremities from your elbows down to your hands, and from your knees down to your feet. Other common areas include the abdomen, back, and ears.

Hello, my name is Alastair Granville Macleod, a Licensed Acupuncturist with a deep commitment to helping you achieve your best health. My journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine began when I was a child struggling with an autoimmune condition. Conventional treatments weren’t able to offer me relief, and it was through Chinese medicine that I found healing. That experience was life-changing, and it’s what drives me today to help others rediscover their health and vitality.
I truly understand how frustrating and isolating chronic conditions can be—especially when traditional Western medicine doesn’t provide the answers. I know how time-consuming, costly, and discouraging it can feel. By contrast, I take a personalized, compassionate approach with each patient, focusing on what works best for you. We’ll work together to find the right combination of treatments, and with tools like AcuGraph, we’ll track your progress every step of the way to ensure the treatment is as effective as possible.
